About BeachSafeCheck
Our Mission

BeachSafeCheck was created to help people make better decisions before entering the water.
Beach conditions can change quickly due to factors like rainfall, runoff, and environmental conditions — often in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. Our goal is to make that information easier to understand and more accessible.

Why BeachSafeCheck Exists

BeachSafeCheck started with a simple, real-world problem.
With more than 10 years of experience in the wastewater industry, I understood how factors like rainfall and sewer overflows can impact water quality. But one day, when my wife and kids went to the beach at Cedar Point, there was a swimming advisory — and she had no idea.

Even though we had talked about these risks before, the information was still easy to miss.
When I tried to figure out where she could check conditions, I realized something important:
The information existed — but it wasn’t easy to find, understand, or use in the moment.

That experience led to a simple question:
What would someone need to quickly and confidently decide if it’s safe to swim?
BeachSafeCheck was built to answer that question.

What We Do

BeachSafeCheck brings together information from publicly available sources, including:
-
Water quality advisories
-
Swim hazard alerts
-
Harmful algae bloom guidance
-
Environmental factors like rainfall and combined sewer overflow (CSO) activity

By organizing and presenting this information in one place, we help you better understand current beach conditions and potential risks.

Our Approach

We focus on:
-
Clarity – presenting information in a simple, easy-to-understand way
-
Awareness – helping users recognize potential risks
-
Practical Use – giving people information they can act on

Our goal is not to replace official guidance, but to help you better understand it.

Looking Ahead

We are continuing to expand Beach Safe to include:
-
Additional data sources
-
Alerts and notifications
-
Local recommendations for alternative activities when conditions aren’t ideal

Final Note

BeachSafeCheck is designed to support safer, more informed beach experiences.
Always follow local authorities and posted advisories when making decisions about swimming or water activities.
